Our May 2026 dates will teach you how to grow your own vegetables and raise small livestock animals. These classes can be taken separately, or you can make a weekend out of it.
Day One - Let's start growing our own vegetables! The first day of the week is our updated Sustainable Gardening class.
Day Two - Learn to raise goats, chickens and rabbits in our Raising Small Animals class.
Sustainable Gardening
It's been a few years since we offered our Gardening class, but since food prices doubled, this is the perfect time to bring you an updated version. Sustainable gardening is a heritage skill that has existed for millennia and the rewards can be delicious! Learn how to grow food for a fraction of the store cost.
The subjects of this class include:
Garden site selection
Deep soil preparation
Growing from seeds and plant cuttings
High calorie crops
Pest prevention and much more!
One day Sustainable Gardening class - $149 per person
Raising Small Animals
Raising Small Animals is a very important part of our 5-day Homesteader Week program! In this hands-on class, you'll learn how to raise and care for goats, chickens and rabbits for home use.
The subjects of this class include:
Breed selection
Housing options
Predator protection
Processing meat animals
and much more!
One day Raising Small Animals class - $149 per person
Dates: Homesteader Week is May 5-9, 2025 - with Sustainable Gardening on May 5, Raising Small Animals on May 6, Build a Homestead Shed on May 7, Food Storage on May 8 and OffGrid Cooking on May 9, 2025.
Course Times: Each day of class runs from 9 am to 5 pm.
Course Location: Held at our home location near Hartwood, Virginia. Detailed driving directions are emailed after enrollment.
Required Equipment: Bring food and drinks for yourself for each day, appropriate clothing and wet weather gear for the expected weather, a knife (fixed blade preferred), work gloves and a pen to take notes.
Recommended Equipment: Bring camping gear if staying onsite for multiple days. Personal camping gear like sleeping pads, pillows, stoves, lights and other gear are welcomed and encouraged. Some seating is available at camp, but please bring a camp chair if you have one.
